La Ceiba
is the third largest city in Honduras, and is probably the country's most vibrant. A relatively young city, it got its name from a huge Ceiba tree that was next to the beach and provided shade to the workers at the dock and locals during the afternoon. It is the capital of the department of Atlantida, one of the 18 departments of Honduras. La Ceiba has long been the operation hub of the Standard Fruit Company, producers of bananas, pineapples, grapefruits and many other agricultural goods that Honduras exports. Although La Ceiba is not their port for major shipping activities, it is their administrative hub. The main port for their exports is Puerto Castilla, opposite of Trujillo in the beautiful Bay of Trujillo, 100 miles east of La Ceiba. La Ceiba is a lot more that a port city with lots of hospitality and charm.
The city itself is pretty easy to get around in. There are two parallel main avenues that run perpendicular to the coast line: The Avenida San Isidro and the 14 de Julio. Most streets are numbered, with first street being the one running adjacent to the coast. The zona viva, where most of the restaurants and night life is to be found is on this street.
The central park is a pleasant shaded area with many of the hotels and restaurants nearby, and is only a few blocks from 1a Calle on the beach.
La Ceiba is famous for its Carnival week, which takes place during the Month of May to celebrate the patron saint, San Isidro. Although the word carnival should not be interpreted in the same sense as the Carnivals in New Orleans and Rio de Janeiro, but more as a large party, this is without doubt the largest and most important celebration held regularly in Central America. During the week of Carnival, different sectors of town organize night long parties with live bands, plenty of food and drinks is available and there is a very festive atmosphere. The Hotel Colonial hosts a party for its clients and special guests at their roof terrace every year on the 24th of May. Hotel guests are all considered special guests on this occasion.

Utila island
The smallest of the three major Bay Islands, Utila lies closest to the Honduran Mainland and is by far the flattest of the islands. Utila is located approximately 18 miles from the coast and can be easily reached from La Ceiba either by sea or air. The Tropical Ferry operates Monday through Friday, leaving from La Ceiba's municipal dock located east of La Ceiba. The trip takes only one hour on this fast motor vessel. Arrival in Utila is at the municipal dock, conveniently located in the central area of east harbor. Air service is available daily via Sosa Airlines. Sunday schedules are limited, so it is best to plan on arriving and departing during the week. There are some charter air services available from both La Ceiba and Roatan that can help you get in or out of Utila. The main town in Utila is known as East Harbour or simply Utila, and is located on the eastern side of the Island, between the Upper Lagoon and the Lower Lagoon. The Upper Lagoons entrance is between the airport and town, precisely where the only bridge in the road between the airport and town is located. Thus, some of the rooms and dive shops are actually located right on the lagoon, such as Sharkeys Reef and Crosscreek Hotel.
The main road is paved until the end of town, however, a dirt road continues and will take you as far as Blue Bayoul, that is very popular with many backpackers and offers one of the few beaches in Utila. The Blue Bayou is located at the entrance to the Lower Lagoon. On the other side of the Lagoon you will find one of the most exclusive resorts in Utila: The Laguna Beach Resort. It is located on a narrow strip of land, with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Lower Lagoon on the other. Shore diving from both resorts is outstanding, as the reef is only a few feet from the beach. You require a motor launch to reach this resort.

Copan
ruins
This magnificent park, located in the Copan Valley, has been a major source of information regarding the ancient Maya civilization. Copan has always been referred to as the most artistically advanced and elaborate of all the Maya cities. Copan was declared a heritage of humanity site in 1980 by UNESCO, and continuous study of the city by archaeologists for over a century make it the most studied city of the Maya.
Although the park itself is enclosed, the legacy of the Maya can be found throughout the valley. The principal attractions are the main park, "Las Sepulturas",Los Sapos", the stelae surrounding the valley and the two museums: the Museum or Archaeology, located in the town and the Museum of Maya Sculpture, located within the Visitors Center area of the Park.
