City information
Capital on the Tiber 25 km off the Tyrrhenian
coast. It was, according to legend, built on 7 hills (773 front J.C) by Romulus,
son of the God of war Mars, brought-up by a wolf with his twin Remus. Rome,
eternal city.
The Vatican: Firstly, it is absolutely necessary to make a stop in the Vatican City, this tiny state located in the heart of Rome. A stop as much for the enthusiasts of the catholic religion and for the ones in love with art. Because not only the Vatican City contains the past of the catholic religion, but it contains also a wealth of art. One has to only think of the fresco that Michael-Angelo realized from 1508 to 1512, in the vault of the Sistine Vault. It is in this vault that one finds the " Last Judgment ". It tells many anecdotes concerning the " Last Judgment " of Michael-Angelo
The fountain of Trevi: Secondly, it is necessary
to go to see the Fountain of Trevi. This fountain, completed in 1762,
represents, in the center, the mythological figure of the Ocean, on a stage
coach trailed by two sea horses guided by Tritons. This fountain is regarded as
one of the most beautiful in the world.
Coliseum of Rome: This immense stone stadium is
where the Romans went to have fun, it was built in the year 70 BC. This Stadium
comprised of 50 000 places with 50 gates in order to facilitate the evacuation
of the spectators in the event of an emergency. In this stadium, there were
fight between men but also between men and wild animals. One found even naval
battles. For the occasion, the arena was filled with water.
