With schools in the vibrant New York music communities of Park Slope, Brooklyn and Flushing , Queens , Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is one of the nation's oldest and largest community music schools. Lessons in nearly all instruments and voice are offered, and students may choose to concentrate on Jazz or Classical study. Students studying for full semesters may also choose to enroll in a variety of group classes including Jazz Choir, various levels of music theory, African Drumming or Jazz Improvisation (additional fee applies). 

Format

Students receive two one-hour private lessons each week in the field of their choice (4 week minimum):

Music classes will take place in the morning hours, at one of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music campuses – Flushing or Park Slope – depending on the field of study

Co-op (INTERNSHIP):

This program allows language courses and practice in the New York work environment. Total of  8 or 12 weeks.
Language course (minimum 4 weeks), 15 or 20 lessons a week of  business English.
INTERNSHIP, 4 OR 8 weeks, around 20 working hours a week, not paid.

    IMPORTANT: no registration without exception will be taken into account less than 6 weeks before the course starting dates. A CV in English is compulsory with the booking

The English and Internship Program will allow you to gain this experience. The program is designed to combine language training with on the job exposure to American professional practices. We offer both Junior and Executive English Internships. A high communicative ability must be demonstrated before a placement can be given, as the internship allows you to practice language skills in a professional environment.

The first part of the program consists of a minimum of 4 weeks in one of our Intensive English Programs (15 or 20 hours per week), where you will improve your English skills under the guidance of our certified and experienced teachers. The second part of this program consists of an uncompensated position at one of the many business and professional organizations throughout New York City. These internships are opportunities for the practical application of the skills acquired in the language-training portion of the program. You will report to the sponsor company each day as though you were an actual employee.
The minimum Internship duration is 4 weeks.

• Junior Interns must complete a minimum of 4 weeks in the Intensive English program. They generally work as 'office-support' staff doing research (using print and electronic media), database management, cold calling, filing, faxing, photocopying or coordinating events.
• Executive Interns must complete a minimum of 4 weeks in the Executive English program. They generally begin as support staff, but are expected to handle tasks with a higher level of responsibility after becoming familiar with the company.
  
  In order to participate in the program, you must submit an American-style résumé, a completed program questionnaire and a signed and dated Internship Agreement at least 6 to 8 weeks prior to your intended start date. The internship placement fee must be received together with the application.

Our Professional Students Your colleagues in our Professional English Program are international executives, business people and professionals from around the world, but they are also so much more. You may be in class with a prominent lawyer or a well-known actor, a film director, a doctor, a general manager, a chief financial officer, or a university professor. It is this wide variety of participants that makes the Professional Program so dynamic. Most participants come to us from Western Europe, East Asia and South America. We welcomed professionals from 25 different countries last year alone. This broad base of international leaders in their fields creates an exciting yet focused learning environment. Most participants attend our Professional English Program for a short period of time (the average is three weeks), but you can attend the course for as little as one week to as many as several months. Participants in our Professional Programs are capable adults with significant professional experience. Our Professional group courses require, in addition to intermediate to advanced level English language skills, demonstrated professional experience. We do not have a minimum age for these programs, but it is intended for more mature students (last year the average age for participants in the program was just over 37 years old). For our less experienced applicants, we recommend our Future Professionals Program. Our Professional English Program, available exclusively at our New York Center, is designed to enable working professionals to improve their English communication skills in the amount of time they have, even if all they have is one week. The courses in this program are more than just "Business English", and they are not just for "Business People". They are designed to equip professionals of all types with the tools they need to interact in English with others on a personal and professional level. The materials used emphasize cultural issues in the professional workplace, as well as different levels of discourse, networking, presentation skills and industry trends. Participants choose between small international groups, private classes, or both. This variety allows for all types of learners to join a class that specifically fits their needs and learning styles. In our group lessons, upper-intermediate and advanced level participants meet with our professional English "generalists." These instructors have specialized training and experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to professionals. They also have general experience working in American businesses and organizations in a wide variety of industries. In our private (one-on-one) lessons, professionals of any level work with either a generalist or a specialist, depending upon the participant's needs and interests. Our specialists have life and work experience in a particular industry, in addition to having training and experience teaching ESL to professionals. Participants enrolled in any of our Professional English Programs are assessed prior to their arrival through our pre-arrival questionnaire (which includes a self-assessment) and a telephone interview with our Professional Program Coordinator. With the information gathered, our Professional Program Coordinator chooses the best instructor(s) for the course and for the participant. This information is also given to the instructors so that they can customize the curriculum for the particular participants. This ensures efficiency and reduces the amount of time lost in the assessment and "getting-to-know-you" exercises usually necessary in the first lesson. Max 8 students (20 hours/week) Offered in New York City, this unique upper intermediate to advanced level course will put you on the track to a successful career by developing the language skills necessary to communicate effectively in the world of international business. Weekly modules focus on topics such as marketing, international trade, finance, information technology and public relations. Besides business English, you will learn business skills such as interviewing and résumé writing for the American market. Future Professionals will serve you whether you plan to pursue a college-level business degree or need to learn business concepts in English for your job. Future Professionals is also an introduction to Practical English in the Working World (PEWW). Small classes of five to eight students meet for four hours a day, Monday through Friday (9:00am-1:00pm or 2:00-6:00pm). This program is affiliated with the Professional English Program (PEP), and you will receive a PEP certificate upon completion. You will also be able to mingle with other international professionals and enjoy the PEP facilities. To achieve even greater progress, Future Professionals may supplement their studies with an elective class such as Advanced Conversation. The minimum age is 17. You should take this course if... ...you want to expand your knowledge of business concepts in English that will help you gain a competitive advantage in today's markets. Each week will include extensive vocabulary and development of standard business skills in the context of current events and issues in the business world. Strong emphasis is placed on improving communication skills.
