Our greeting families are recruited with great care. The criteria of selection are very rigorous and each family must satisfy a precise conditions of contract: : excellent morality, desire to communicate with their host, satisfactory social standing. We should specify that the families will only speak with you the language of the country where you will be. It is the principle of the immersion courses!

Classroom Electives are available in:

  • Topics: The teacher selects a topic. Students learn the vocabulary and structures used with the topic. For example, the topic is shopping. The students learn vocabulary related to shopping. They then learn the different structure for buying things in a shop. Students practice and receive correction.
  • Grammar: The teacher teaches a grammar point. Students learn how to use English grammar correctly and how to use it in natural situations. Examples include modals, present perfect or adjectives.
  • Speaking: This course combines several skills; conversation, fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. The focus is on situations and the language necessary to be successful in these situations. For example, a class may be “at a party” and students practice social conversation, asking people to repeat, clear pronunciation and asking questions.
  • Fluency: The focus is on fluency, or talking a lot. Grammar and pronunciation are not as important as speaking as much as possible about as many different topics as possible. The teacher will only make corrections if the errors make the conversation difficult to understand.
  • Speech Clinic: This class focuses on pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm. Different activities and drills help students understand their pronunciation errors and to speak more naturally.
  • Listening: Students listen to real materials and practice techniques for understanding natural spoken English. The topics also lead to conversations and discussions about the material heard.
  • Writing: Usually for advanced students, this class helps students with their writing. Topics include e-mail, letters, faxes, resumes, keeping a journal, writing for school or work and more.
  • Reading: Focused on quickly finding and understanding longer passages, these courses give students experience with new vocabulary and authentic reading materials.
  • Life in Canada: These courses prepare students for the everyday tasks of daily life in a foreign country; opening a bank account, shopping, socializing, and more.
